Fine & Country have opened a new franchise in St Francis Bay to meet the growing demand in a competitive market for an international realty group that is recognised for professional marketing support and advice regarding luxury homes in golf resorts. The owner and manager, Sandra Coetzer, is supported by Esmé Welman, a senior property consultant with 27 years’ experience.

The upper quartile of properties in this market place include real estate owned by business folk and overseas folk who have invested in the easy, yet luxury lifestyle of the area where prices topped the R25 million mark.

Sandra positioned the office well and chose a spot in the only shopping mall, The Village Square, in St Francis Bay where high visibility and an expected visitor count of over 70 000 is expected for this Christmas season.

According to Coetzer, she plans to grow their market share by increasing their presence in the area by extensive marketing and employing another experienced agent who is skilled to deal with the demands of national and international customers. Her own experience and qualifications along with her choice of an experienced property consultant and the fact that both have lived in the area for more than 20 years will go a long way in servicing clients, as one needs to know the demographics of the area, the history as well as the culture of the people as all those factors play a role when giving advice to newcomers to the area.

Coetzer joined Fine & Country in 2007, moving up in the ranks from senior agent to Franchisee.

She added, “The Fine & Country brand assisted me in growing my business in Jeffreys Bay as the brand per se sells itself as it is inherently distinctive and professional. The purpose of the brand is to serve clients in the upper quartile of the market place, connecting those sellers to like-minded purchasers, either from elsewhere in South Africa or abroad.

“However, it has to be borne in mind that the Eastern Cape is still regarded as the lower end of the market when buying holiday homes, and Coetzer has joined the network of the higher income group who appreciate the real value of the Eastern Cape’s beaches.”

Commenting on her decision to expand to St Francis, she said, “St Francis offers new opportunities to this smaller pool of buyers, as this clientele differs greatly from those in other areas, and the Fine & Country model is ideal for this environment.”

When asked why St Francis was so attractive as a new venture for her, she said, “That was a dream, because of the challenges of working with top income producers as well as overseas investors.

“The architectural designs differ from other coastal towns and St Francis Bay has a different culture and lifestyle, being somewhat more laidback, and it has grown over the years from a retirees’ hamlet into a thriving business opportunity village with many young people living here. However, the ambience of tranquility remains, in spite of expanding market opportunities.

“People visiting St Francis include a variety of people, including golfers, sports enthusiasts and companies availing themselves of existing facilities; especially Cape St Francis for conferences. Many foreigners are living in St Francis Bay for a few months of the year, the swallows as we call them in South Africa; and St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis are also sought-after areas for second home-buyers.”

Linda Erasmus, CEO of Fine & Country sub-Saharan Africa, said, “Accessing the network of high-worth individuals from all over the world is a skill on its own. Fine & Country was established ten years ago in South Africa and we are proud to include St Francis in our luxury portfolio when we promote South Africa to the world. Home-owners will have the opportunity to display their properties this season on the screens in Camps Bay where many visitors first set foot in South Africa before they tour down the coast.”
