South African property remains a good investment for buyers from abroad

The Fine & Country South Africa Property Exhibition took place recently at the Fine & Country Head Office in Park Lane, London. The event showcased some of the most prestigious properties in South Africa, from a unique game farm development on 6 600 fenced hectares, to a delightful mansion in the heart of Pretoria East.

Linda Erasmus, CEO of Fine & Country sub-Saharan Africa, was there to answer guests’ and prospective buyers’ questions about the areas and the properties available.

She said, “The event introduced South African properties to potential clients via our offices in the UK and abroad. The international steering committee meeting followed, as well as the Fine & Country international convention, the launch of Fine & Country Golf and the Fine & Country Warwickshire Gold Cup polo event. South Africa’s presence at all these events allowed for discussion about the market in South Africa, confirming that South African property remains a good investment for buyers from abroad.”

When asked why international connections are so important for estate agents operating in the Western Cape, Kelly-Leigh Reifarth, licensee of Fine & Country Helderberg, said that Cape Town receiving the title of the World Design Capital 2014 and being named the top holiday destination for 2014 by the UK, The Guardian and the US’s New York Times have focused the attention on the Western Cape.

She added, “Leading property professionals agree that more foreigners, mainly British and German, are buying South African properties and that their interest is mainly in the Western Cape. The weak rand has also played a part, with International buyers paying cash for their properties. With our international connections, we can assist foreigners in buying and selling properties here in the Western Cape or back in their home countries.

“After having attended the international conference, I will focus not only on the local market, but use my international experience to hone in on the opportunity to expand my existing network.”

According to Reifarth, she met with representatives from the UK and Portugal who can help her in her network. She found this beneficial in terms of valuations and potential sellers here and overseas.

Fine & Country Golf was launched at the same time. Ground-breaking partnerships were entered into with Troon Golf, the world leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing, and the European Tour, the world’s premier golf competition, to form a new division, Fine & Country Golf.

With this new division, Fine & Country will market an exclusive selection of elite homes located on some of the best golf estates in the world.

According to Marianda de Villiers, principal of Fine & Country, Mossel Bay and Hartenbos, Pinnacle Point golf and beach resort situated on the famous Garden Route with the second best weather in the world, offers the travel guru, investor and serious golfer the ideal break-away destination.

She adds, “Playing golf on this award winning, spectacular golf course set on a cliffside overlooking the Indian Ocean is any golfer’s dream. Pinnacle Point offers the most luxurious accommodation in our golf lodges, villas and houses where comfort and sumptuous living is a given.”

She enjoyed networking with other agents from around the globe, especially those agents who will participate in the marketing of Fine & Country Golf.

She added, “This is a very positive development for my business in South Africa.”

Jim Julyan, member of the Homeowners Association of Pinnacle Point, said, “The launch of Fine & Country Golf was a tremendous event and I was, along with Marianda de Villiers, delighted to be there on behalf of Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Resort. Being involved at the start of this exciting development for Golf real estate means a great deal to us in South Africa. Pinnacle Point is one of the most spectacular golf estates in the world and, with this launch, it will undoubtedly help us to introduce this remarkable estate to an even larger international market.

“The launch of Fine & Country Golf will benefit all the prestigious golf estates involved, including Pinnacle Point, by providing a totally professional innovative service and by increasing the awareness via marketing of these top locations. The international exposure obtained through Fine & Country Golf will benefit all of us and bring these wonderful locations to a vastly wider market.”

According to Kelly-Leigh Reifarth, licensee of Fine & Country, Helderberg, golfers internationally share a common interest and naturally are drawn towards golf courses within their region, nationally and internationally. This is a way in which the brand can be associated with more than just “residential properties” and it will certainly contribute to the growth of the group.

She adds,“Fine & Country is a truly international brand, and we have access to a huge portfolio of properties through our network of area specialists globally. Our marketing material is of the highest quality and we can be proud.

“I think that most South African agents are still operating within their territories. However, this could be due to the fact that they don’t necessarily have access to a truly International brand or network.

Erasmus concluded, “As the Fine & Country network develops, so does our database of clients and beautiful properties. The Fine & Country network is well and alive – apart from all the marketing and five star award winning presentations, the Fine & Country benefit lies in the direct and personal interaction between members of the group. Each year we travel thousands of kilometres to meet in London, getting to know each other better, understanding and sharing the different markets and, most of all, making sure that we serve our clients best.

“Summer in Europe is an exhilarating time of the year and an opportune time to reach the international visitor who plans to visit South Africa in our summer. This is the time of the year when everybody comes together to celebrate a season of sport, from Wimbledon and the PGA Golf Tour to the Fine & Country Warwickshire Gold Cup, a polo event that continues to get bigger and better year after year.”
